Wiley Post was born in Texas, but Oklahomans claim him as their own, often referring to him as the world's greatest pilot. He was the first pilot to fly alone around the earth. Additionally, he was a parachute jumper, a test pilot, the discoverer of the jet stream, and the inventor of the pressurized flight suit. And he accomplished all that in 36 years.
The original Wiley Post Airport in West OKC was built in the 1920s and the current Wiley Post Airport was built at its current location in 1942 to support the Army's Will Rogers Field.
Our speaker will be Bob Burke, an attorney, who has written over 130 including three that were Pulitzer Prize nominations. Burke is a member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Historians Hall of Fame.
