The Bridgeton Historical Commission/Society invites you to their next FREE Historical Speaker Series event at the Bridgeton Recreation Center, 4201 Fee Fee Road. We will welcome Valerie Battle Kienzle. Her book "Ready to Wear: A History of the Footwear and Garment Industries in St. Louis" discusses St. Louis’s significant role in the fashion industry, from its origins in the fur trade to becoming a major center for shoe and dress manufacturing, including the development of the junior market. The book covers the growth and declines of these industries, highlighting Washington Avenue ("Shoe Street USA") and featuring historical images, stories, and advertisements.Light refreshments will be served and no reservation is needed.
