Sweet and Sour: Victorian Valentines
Join a historic Valentine's program on Saturday, February 15th between 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
Enjoy sweet violin music from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, followed by a demonstration where you’ll learn to make your own 19th-century style valentine from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM at the Dry Goods Store exhibit in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Nineteenth-century Valentines could be sweet or sour in sentiment. Sour ones, termed "Vinegar Valentines" mocked or made jokes. A vinegar card ended perceived romantic sentiments that one person felt for another.
