To begin, we'll explore the wider mill to understand all the processes involved in post-industrial textile production, and introduce key terms and themes. As the workshop progresses, you will have the opportunity to consider how pre-industrial communities and societies created textiles, and what materials they used - Starting with an outdoor weaving activity using all natural materials such as wood, plants and wool. After, you will learn about different historical methods of textile production and have the opportunity to try ancient weaving techniques, whilst gaining insight into the cultural and historical context of each method and we'll investigate how we know about historic textiles - through archaeological and historical evidence.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a craft lover, or simply curious, this immersive workshop offers a unique opportunity to develop a heritage crafting skill while connecting with the stories woven into our past. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those aged 16+.
Tickets are £10. There will be two sessions throughout the day:
Session 1: 12:30pm - 2pm
Session 2: 2:30pm - 4pm
