About those photos in your attic & albums: Who were they? Where was that house? Is your family interested? Would others be interested in seeing them?Photographic historian, Joan Hostetler, will speak on Sunday May 19 at 2 p.m.
For over 20 years, The Indiana Album, an organization dedicated to the Hoosier state's visual history, has copied, cataloged, & shared quirky, interesting & mystery photos of Indiana. Joan Hostetler, one of the group's founders, will discuss some of her favorite images and what makes them special. She will showcase some amazing then-and-now views, review some of the best sources for dating and identifying mystery photos, and share details that help us interpret social history.
This presentation is part of the Irvington Historical Society's exhibit, The Big Picture and is supported by Indiana Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
There will also be a Photo Scan-a-Thon, Sunday, May 19, 1-4 p.m. If you own Indiana photos or visuals (from any era) of businesses, houses, buildings, groups, events, or interesting people, bring them along to be copied for the Indiana Album's community digital archive (indianaalbum.com). Please register in advance to have items scanned by contacting [email protected] or (317) 771-4129. Join the 540 lenders who have shared over 25,000 photographs so far!
The event & museum admission are free. Free street parking is available.
