Town & Gown: Stetson University & DeLand - growing our community 1900-1940
Walk through history in DeLand’s Oakdale Cemetery with the West Volusia Historical Society’s in-house reenactor troupe. Discover the stories of the evolving partnership between the City of DeLand and Stetson University. Learn how collaborative their efforts and shared goals created a mutually beneficial environment, supporting both the town’s development and the University’s growth. You’ll meet several key individuals who, during this Progressive Era, were instrumental in advancing education, social reforms and community development, establishing DeLand as progressive and forward-thinking.
Walking Tours begin at 5:30 pm and are approximately an hour and 15 minutes in length. Tours meet at the entrance of Oakdale Cemetery off North Clara Avenue.
Tickets: $20 for members; $25 nonmembers; $15 for children under 12 years of age.
Reservations required. Call WVHS 386-740-6813 to RSVP. Office hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 12 noon to 4 pm.
Please note: Guests reserve a tour in a specific time slot with tours commencing the walk every 20 minutes. There are a limited number of slots so make your reservations early. The walk is on the old, historical paths through Oakdale Cemetery and this event is not recommended for those with serious mobility issues.
