Hispanic Film Club Screening: La novia

The Manchester Central Library and Instituto Cervantes Manchester present the Hispanic Film Club, a programme designed to celebrate the richness of Spanish-language cinema.

Fourth screening: La novia [The Bride] (Paula Ortiz, 2015)

Synopsis: Based on the well-known play Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca, La novia is set in Spain in the 1920/30’s and tells the story of a multi-family, multi-generational blood feud that is about to be settled by a wedding between two of the families. But Fate and Death have other plans as the girl is in love with another man. On the evening of the post-wedding party, the Bride cannot help herself as she and her lover gallop away on horseback, leaving the groom behind, distraught and fuming. The two lovers are carried away by their passion and, defying all social rules and their own better judgment, they set a chain of events in motion that will have devastating consequences.

Cuarta proyección: La novia (Paula Ortiz, 2025)

Sinopsis: Dos hombres, una mujer, un amor, un deseo más fuerte que la ley y que la naturaleza salvaje del mundo que les rodea. Leonardo, El Novio y La Novia son un triángulo inseparable desde niños, pero Leonardo y La Novia tienen un hilo invisible, feroz,imposible de romper… Pasan los años y ella, angustiada e infeliz, se prepara para su boda con el Novio en medio del desierto blanco, de tierras salinas y yermas, donde vive con su padre. El día anterior a la ceremonia, a su puerta llama una mendiga anciana que le ofrece un regalo y un consejo: “No te cases si no le amas”, mientras le da dos puñales de cristal. Un escalofrío recorre el alma y el cuerpo de la Novia.
