Hiroshima Day Vigil + Action Steps

Schedule

Location

Evanston's Fountain Square | Evanston, IL

Please join CAPA, Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Nuclear Energy Information Service, Chicago Committee Against War & Racism, World BEYOND War, and friends on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at 11 A.M., starting at Fountain Square in Evanston, IL for a powerful Hiroshima Day vigil honoring Sadako Sasaki and all hibakusha ?? --> PLUS actionable steps toward a nuclear-free future!
Our vigil will feature origami cranes in honor of hibakusha ("bomb-affected person") Sadako Sasaki. Sadako was just 2 years old during the bombing, and died from radiation effects 10 years later. Before her death, she took on a project of folding 1,000 paper cranes, which by tradition meant she would be granted a wish.
On August 6th, we'll share concrete actions toward a nuclear-free future, then proceed to nearby Dawes Park to float our origami cranes in the reflecting pool. Finally, we'll take essential action steps together to demand the U.S. join most nations on Earth in divesting from nuclear weapons. Please bring family and friends of all ages to this special vigil and movement-building opportunity.
WHEN: Sat., Aug. 6th, 2022 at 11 A.M. CST.
