Hip Hop 101: Where Culture Becomes Curriculum

For K12 Educators: This workshop seeks to address the unavoidable reality that many youth beginning as early as elementary school are influenced by the musicality and oral traditions located in HipHop. Youth are fastened to their headphones and phones in search of music that inspires, soothes, connects, and validates the narratives their realities. One of five essential elements found in HipHop, the union between the lyricist and beats are a critical component to better understand culturally responsive arts education and HipHop pedagogy. We will model the rhymicality, cadence, persona, and essence of the emcee in a full embodiment experience designed with teaching artists in mind.
