About this Event
The Vedic New Year, celebrated in Tamil culture as Puthandu, marks the beginning of the New Year according to the position of the Sun in the zodiac signs, known as "Rashis" in astrology. The Sun moves through twelve different Rashis, each corresponding to a specific period of time. When the Sun completes its cycle through all twelve Rashis and returns to the first one, it signifies the start of a new year. Hence, Puthandu is celebrated as the auspicious day when the Sun enters its initial Rashi, symbolizing the commencement of a new year in the Vedic Solar calendar.
