Hinamatsuri is a Shinto and Japanese cultural holiday. Hinamatsuri means Doll Festival, but the day is also referred to as Girls' Day. This festival is celebrated every year where families pray for the happiness and prosperity of girls. The day boasts a variety of seasonal sweets, crafts, and activities!
The Japan America Society of Chicago is proud to bring this girl-centric celebration which features:
- Complimentary mini ikebana floral arrangement instruction courtesy of artist Reiko Takahashi of Floral Ashirai. Each participant will take home their work!
- Complimentary Ichigo (strawberry) daifuku and sakura (cherry blossom) daifuku. Daifuku are a traditional Japanese sweet or wagashi. The word “daifuku” actually means great luck. It is made by stuffing mochi (Japanese pounded rice cake) with a filling, traditionally a sweet red bean paste called anko. For the Hinamatsuri celebration they are also filled with whole strawberries and pickled cherry blossoms! All sweets are from our partners at Hippo Pastry!
- Kimono and cherry blossom origami folding and instruction.
- Hinamatsuri themed crafts.
- Complimentary selection of on theme teas from our partners at Chicago Tea House
