Did you know that, before Fuller Callaway Sr. became a textile magnate, he was in the department store business? In the late 1880s, Callaway's Famous Mammoth Five-and-Ten Cent Store sat on the corner of Court Square and Vernon Street. Large elephants on the roof drew in patrons throughout the area.
