As Biltmore’s Director of Horticulture, Parker Andes is responsible for maintaining the gardens and grounds as originally intended and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of American landscape architecture. Before he began his career at Biltmore, he served as Landscape Supervisor at Longwood Gardens and Director of Horticulture at Callaway Gardens. On Tuesday, October 12, Andes will review some of Olmsted’s original design intents and show how the staff at Biltmore strives to maintain them across 8000 acres today, while also looking at the challenges, successes, and occasional failures over the years. A reception will begin at 6:30 pm followed by the presentation at 7:00 pm. $10.00 per person. Free admission for estate members. Spaces are limited and registration is required. Call (706) 882-3242 or email [email protected] to register.
