Hosted by Hike NS, a free Hiking Buddies workshop will take place in Halifax on May 30, teaching participants how to assist blind and partially sighted hikers on the trail. The hope is that participants will then be open to volunteer to assist blind or partially sighted hikers in the future individually or for guided hike events. This workshop will take place entirely outside on the trails and will cover myths and misunderstandings about being blind or partially sighted. Participants will receive guide training and learn tips on hiking/walking techniques and descriptions. Must be experienced hikers. Supported by the NS Office of Equity and Anti-Racism. The hikers are dressed in casual hiking attire, including backpacks, hats, and sturdy footwear. One individual is using a walking stick for support and another is at the front guiding them. Pairs of hikers have one person in front with the person behind holding onto the other’s backpack. The group is surrounded by vibrant greenery, including trees, moss, ferns, and other vegetation, creating a peaceful and natural environment. The wooden bridge spans over a shallow stream with rocks and plants visible below.
