At an elevation 3,849 feet, the summit of Mount Diablo is the second highest peak in the San Francisco Bay Area. On clear days, the views from the summit are unparalleled. If conditions are right, visibility extends 165 miles north to Mount Lassen, 91 miles west past the Golden Gate to the Farallon Islands, and 135 miles east to the Sierra crest. On overcast days, we’ve pierced the cloud ceiling on the drive up and witnessed a breathtaking view of sunny skies with a carpet of clouds beneath our feet. Even if visibility is less than perfect, the rugged beauty of the landscape is enough to satisfy any visitor to Mount Diablo.
