Highlights in concert from The Rape of Lucretia
About this Event
Benjamin Britten and Ronald Duncan's post-war masterpiece The Rape of Lucretia is a seminal work shot through with raw psychological tension and a haunting, sinewy musical brilliance, set in the lust- and blood-soaked world of Ancient Rome. Britten's first chamber opera, written amid the harsh austerity of 1946 Europe for a cast of eight solo singers and a thirteen-piece chamber orchestra, it packs a devastating emotional punch that rivals the grandest of operas.
In this concert performance of selected highlights from the full work, Brunswick Vocal Arts presents eight rising operatic stars:
Male Chorus - Zachary McCulloch
Female Chorus - Lucy Anderson
Collatinus - Harrison Gration
Junius - Harrison Robb
Tarquinius - Sam Hird
Lucretia - Naomi Boot
Bianca - Georgia Mae Bishop
Lucia - Sharon Tadmor
The Orchestra of Brunswick Vocal Arts will be conducted by Gary Matthewman.
A linking narrative will be read, in English, between musical items.
