Join Dorset Council’s Senior Archaeologist, Steve Wallis for an afternoon talk on a project to preserve the heritage site of High Angle Battery on Portland.
High Angle Battery on Portland was part of the late Victorian defences of Portland. How it operated and why it was soon obsolete are an important part of its story, as are its uses up to the present day. The site is owned by Dorset Council, which has secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to rejuvenate the site and help tell its story to a wider audience. The Rediscovering High Angle Battery project also involves Portland Town Council, Island Community Action, heritage experts and the local community.
