Hidden Herd Presents is Brighton’s new music discovery night, spotlighting the most exciting emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems. This time, come to The Hope & Ruin for Spanish Horses, The Roebucks, The Motor Show and Arcadia Residential.
Spanish Horses
Spanish Horses are a five-piece underground rock ’n’ roll band formed in Paris and based in London. Drawing inspiration from The Velvet Underground, alongside the angular post-punk of The Fall, the melodic charm of The Pastels and the brooding atmospheres of Joy Division, their music weaves together lush melodies, sharp rhythms and layered textures. Following a high-profile tour supporting Public Image Ltd. and a standout appearance at Tramlines Festival, the band has spent the past year solidifying their reputation as a must-see live act. They recently embarked on their debut UK headline tour, bringing their raw energy to venues across the country, from Brighton all the way up to Glasgow. Next, they’re set to play Mood Swings at YES Basement in Manchester with Ladylike, Supersonic Club in Paris with Alien Chicks and End of the Road Festival in September.

The Roebucks
The Roebucks are a four-piece band from Brighton whose idiosyncratic take on indie, blues rock, alt-country and Americana is at times woozy and tender, and at others earthy and visceral. While the band have been around since 2022, the addition of drumming and vocal powerhouse Sophie Moloney in early 2024 - joining singer-guitarists Lola Gordon and Tom Cotter, and bassist Henry Brown - has propelled them to new heights, elevating both their songwriting and live performances. The band have already wowed audiences across the country, with notable festival appearances at The Great Escape Festival, Black Deer Festival, Mutations Festival, Wanderlust Festival and Left of the Dial in Rotterdam, alongside a UK tour and high-profile support slots with acts such as Sea Power and The Heavy Heavy. Since signing with Goo Records, The Roebucks have released three excellent singles - ‘Great British Pig’, ‘Mona’ and ‘He’s My Man’ - which were championed by Cerys Matthews on BBC Radio 6 Music and John Kennedy on Radio X. Next, they’re set to tour the UK with Howling Bells.

The Motor Show
Drawing inspiration from Fat White Family, Viagra Boys, Ennio Morricone and Parquet Courts, Hackney-based band The Motor Show deliver a revved up, gritty mix of garage fuzz and backcountry twang, described as “a late-night joyride gone wrong”. The band - led by talismanic rancher, Beau Vine - have been championed by Emily Pilbeam on BBC Radio 6 Music and Jess Iszatt on BBC Introducing London, playlisted by So Young Magazine and Pretty Green, and featured by The Quietus and EARMILK. Known for their high-octane live shows, The Motor Show have shared stages with English Teacher, Fat Dog, Ditz, Projector, congratulations, Bathing Suits, The Slow Country and Black Bordello, and have appeared at festivals such as Shiny New Model Festival and FarmFest, as well as a Bad Vibes all-dayer.

Arcadia Residential
Arcadia Residential are a Brighton-based quartet drawing on elements of indie rock ’n’ roll, post-punk, psych and 70s soft rock. Echoing the Britpop-tinged spirit of Sports Team and FEET, alongside the punchy energy of The Bug Club, Getdown Services and local heroes Holiday Ghosts, the band deliver a rollicking, energetic and feel-good live show. To date, they’ve sold out a headline show at The Rossi Bar, played Homegrown Festival and MumFest, and shared stages with Brighton favourites including Youth Sector, ELLiS·D, Big Long Sun, Room Service, Bones Ate Arfa, Telecom and Magda.
