Hidden Herd Presents is Brighton’s new music discovery night, spotlighting the most exciting emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems. This time, come to The Hope & Ruin for Frances Mistry, flypaper, Lynnie Snow and Wilshaw.
Frances Mistry
Delicate yet self-assured, Brighton-based dream-pop artist Frances Mistry is quietly carving a space for herself in the indie-folk world and making 2025 her biggest year yet. Her third EP, ‘conversations with those i love’, was unveiled in May, and has already racked up hundreds of thousands of streams after being featured on Spotify editorial playlists such as Peach and Fresh Finds Folk. Rooted in personal storytelling, the five-song collection is an intimate snapshot of her life, including her journey with autism. Inspired by the tender honesty of artists like Clairo, Faye Webster and Beabadoobee, Frances Mistry’s music feels both vulnerable and familiar, catching the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, who hailed her as a “proper, authentic artist”. She performed on the BBC Music Introducing stage at this year’s Great Escape Festival and has supported the likes of Paris Paloma and Alfie Templeman.

flypaper
Firmly establishing himself as one to watch with the release of two stellar EPs via PNKSLM Recordings - ‘big nada’ and ‘another orbit’ - London-based flypaper is the captivating solo project of Rory Sear. Retaining the melodic sensibilities that defined his work as frontman and chief songwriter of Brighton indie outfit Beachtape, Sear’s new venture explores gentler sonic landscapes. If Beachtape made breezy indie rock their signature, flypaper delves even deeper into introspection, channelling the spirit of Elliott Smith and Nick Drake to craft a gorgeously mellow, atmospheric, acoustic-led sound. Armed with a full album’s worth of self-produced material that’s slated for release later in 2025, Sear is backed by a five-piece band for live performances and has already played festival slots at Left of the Dial Rotterdam and Viva Sounds in Gothenburg.

Lynnie Snow
Lynnie Snow is Brighton’s newest poltergeist, haunting the scene with a sound that’s as fragile as it is chaotic. In a city overflowing with talent, she’s already standing out and generating a wave of excitable buzz with her raw, cinematic blend of alt-pop, baroque pop and folk. Her demos recall the darkly playful vintage-pop of Luvcat, the theatrical flair of The Last Dinner Party and the haunting romanticism of Etta Marcus, setting delicate vocals against a darkly ambient backdrop. Though she’s only played a handful of shows, Lynnie Snow is already captivating local audiences - most recently performing at The Hope & Ruin’s “Ones To Watch” showcase.

Wilshaw
Wilshaw are an indie rock outfit spearheaded by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kieran Alexander. Hailing from London by way of Nottingham, they spent their early years honing their sound on the live circuit - tearing their songs down to the studs, only to rebuild them with raw emotion, earnestness and a sharp lyrical wit. Following last year’s spine-tingling double A-side, ‘The Favourite’ and ‘The Daughter’, Wilshaw have just dropped their excellent new single ‘lazy’, laying the foundations for an exciting new direction.
