About this Event

Declared a City of Seattle landmark in 1984, Hiawatha Park and Playfield was designed by the Olmsted Brothers Firm in 1910.

It began a ’new era in public recreation in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest’. At the time, it was the largest public playfield in Seattle. It included a playground, athletic field, tennis and basketball courts, a running track, two wading pools, and landscaped areas along the park borders; the field house was added to the park not long after it opened. Dedicated in 1911, it retains much of the original Olmsted design to this day.

Tour details:

  • Meet at the east park entrance at Walnut Avenue SW and SW Forest Street promptly at 10 a.m.
  • Tour lasts approximately 2 hours, less than 1 mile in length.
  • This tour is free and open to all.
