Hi-Fi Night School - Global Studies - United Kingdom w/ Zach Cowie + EM/IA
About this Event
Hi-Fi Night School Year Three - Global Studies
Join us October 22nd as Global Studies continues with its sixth session exploring music and culture. Set within our dedicated listening space, each gathering invites audiences to engage with music not just as sound, but as story, history, and shared human experience.
This evening we’ll be having music curated by DJ and Emmy-nominated music supervisor Zach Cowie. He will walk us through the sounds of the United Kingdom and the profound role it had in shaping British culture and identity. From post-war rock and folk to punk and underground club movements, UK music has long served as a reflection of social change and as a hub for influencing generations of artists and listeners around the world.
Regionally inspired libations crafted by Chayka, Pretty Please!
As always, all proceeds from the evening will benefit local school’s music programs.
Session Six | United Kingdom | Zach Cowie
October 22nd
For this edition of Global Studies, we welcome Zach Cowie; an Emmy-nominated music supervisor, internationally renowned DJ, and record collector.
Over the past decade, Cowie has established himself as one of the most respected music supervisors in the world, working in film, television, and fashion. He has contributed to acclaimed projects such as Celeste & Jesse Forever, Judas and the Black Messiah, Master of None, Little America, and multiple projects with Rodarte.
A fixture of DJ culture since 2001, Cowie continues to perform around the globe both solo and alongside actor Elijah Wood as the celebrated duo Wooden Wisdom. At the heart of his work remains a lifelong dedication to records, hi-fi culture, and the communal experience of listening.
Through a carefully curated selection of recordings, Cowie will explore the stories and movements that have shaped the rich musical landscape of the United Kingdom. Zach will also be tracing how UK music evolved into one of the most influential and far-reaching cultural forces of the modern era.
The System
This session’s system features very special components from artisan designers EM/IA. These bespoke components are some of the most emotionally communicative creations around and we are very excited to listen to them in our space! Since their amplifiers are focused on low watt, single ended designs, we will pair them with arguably the best value in high efficiency speakers manufactured today, the Klipschorn AK7 Fully Hornloaded Loudspeaker.
For analog playback, we will use our Kuzma Dual Arm XL DC Turntable fitted out with some of our favorite tone creators, Miyajima cartridges from Japan
