WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
This Is My Story is an interactive Hip Hop Healing workshop exploring how Hip Hop culture and its creative elements can be used as tools for storytelling, self-expression, connection and healing.
Hip Hop has always been more than music. It has provided generations of people with ways to document their experiences, express identity, process struggle, celebrate life, build community and imagine something different.
This workshop invites participants to explore their own stories through Hip Hop practices including MCing, DJing, lyricism, rhythm, storytelling, movement, visual expression and knowledge.
Participants will be guided through reflection, discussion and creative activities that encourage them to consider:
- What is my story?
- What has shaped me?
- What stories have I inherited?
- What stories am I choosing to tell?
- How can creativity help me express what words alone sometimes cannot?
The workshop will also feature Sean "Gold" Thomas, Jamaican-Canadian artist, entrepreneur and music executive, who will share his journey through Hip Hop, entrepreneurship, artist development and the music industry.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn from an industry professional while also developing their own creative story.
