Beginner’s sewing classes, introducing you to the fundamentals of sewing.Hey! Ho! Let’s Sew beginner’s classes will introduce you to the fundamentals of sewing.
From learning your way around a sewing machine to stitching the perfect straight line, each class will provide you with take home samples for future reference as well as a finished project.
With a strong focus on confidence building and developing understanding, the classes will guide you through every step to give you the skills you need to take on your own sewing projects.
The classes are designed to suit your availability; you can attend a one-off session, jump right in to #3, or sign up for the full 3 class course.
Machines will be provided, along with all equipment and textiles required for the classes.
These sessions are for age 16yrs+.
Intro To Sewing #1 - Tuesday 12 December
This class is for the never-seen-a-sewing-machine-before beginner. No judgement here, we were there once too. After this class however, you will know your dog feeds from your bobbins, and presser foot from foot pedal. The class will develop your confidence with stitching and give you the opportunity to gain the skills required to complete your own cushion cover.
Intro To Sewing #2 - Thursday 21 December
Your chance to expand your knowledge, develop your technique with new stitch types and build up your machine confidence. This class will guide you through making a tote bag with pocket and lining, perfect to keep all your sewing projects in. A great class to start on for returners to sewing, or beginners looking to develop.
Intro To Sewing #3 - Wednesday 10 January
A class to expand your knowledge. Learn new sewing techniques, including seam types, finishings and decorative stitching. It’s a great next step for those who have mastered the foot pedal, can thread up the machine and are ready to level up.
ACCESS & VENUE
Access: If you have additional access needs (e.g. large print resources, BSL interpreter) Please let us know by emailing [email protected] at least a week before the session.
Important info: Please note that this session is upstairs. It’s a single flight of 14 steps then you go around the corner and there are two small steps. Once you’re upstairs there’s a loo. You shouldn’t need to come downstairs for anything until the end of the event.
Getting here
-Tram to North Pier.
-Bus: No 3,4 or 6 bus to Topping St. No 2, 2C, 3, 7, 7, 11, 14, 17, 18 or 20 to Church St (Stanley Buildings).
-Driving: The closest pay and display car parks are on East Topping St and Talbot Road multi storey. There is also parking at the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket, please make sure that you check the terms before you use the car park. Free parking is available on most streets around the venue from 6pm, please make sure to check signage before leaving your car.
