*Only 2 spaces remaining!*We're used to seeing animal prints used in fashion and housewares, but it's always the same wildlife that those prints are inspired from (leopard, zebra, tiger, cow, python). In this set of two workshops, we're going to look at the skin, scale, and shell patterns of some different reptiles and amphibians (herpetofauna), and learn how to create these fascinating and wonderful patterns with colored pencils. Students will learn some interesting facts about the animals we're using as inspiration (all native to Georgia!), including reasons for their unique patterning. We will learn some colored pencil techniques to get smoother blends, popping contrast, and saturated colors. And we will also look at two different reptile and amphibian artists' work (one in each class), and discuss ways they make their subjects look realistic and stand out.
Register for one class, or for the set of two to build your students skills at a discounted rate. While they will build off each other some, they can also stand-alone.
Class 1, 5/17, 11:00am-Noon:
Animals- Green treefrog, spotted turtle, spotted salamander, and the eastern newt.
Techniques- Pencil choice, smooth blending, and color saturation.
Class 2, 5/24, 11:00am-Noon:
Animals- Marbled salamander, box turtle, green frog, and diamondback rattlesnake.
Techniques- Highlights and shines, blending colors, advanced patterns and details.
Price: $26 for the set of two classes, or $16 per class. Includes all materials. Please register on our website to reserve a spot for your child. Advance registration is required. We will update the listing once the class is full.
Location: The PEA Studio (located inside Champion Kids), 1465 Canton Rd. Marietta.
Additional info: This class is geared towards homeschool students 7+, and is a "drop off" class. Adults may sit and read at the tables outside of the studio inside Champion Kids, take siblings to Open Play in one of the gyms on-site, or visit the new cafe across the street. Open Play at Champion Kids runs 10am-Noon on Wednesdays, and siblings are half-price for Open Play.
Please plan to arrive 5 minutes early to fill out some forms before drop-off so that we can begin class on time.
