Monsoon Masarrat #3

Get ready to splash into history! This Saturday, join us on a monsoon walk through Delhi's Ridge, where the rains bring new life to the stories of the past.

Delhi's northern ridge has seen many seasons and changed many shades... Its history goes back to the 15th century, when Feroze Shah Tughlaq used the swathe of green cover as a hunting retreat...

400 years later, at the turn of the 19th century, the Ridge was a lush green landscape with several small streams and a dilapidated Tughlaqi fortress. The backwaters of the grand Mughal capital, its inhabitants were villagers and dacoits always at odds with the city folks.

Fast forward to the British era, when this area transformed into a hub of colonial grandeur, boasting three of the most expansive estates of Colonial India

It was this northern ridge that saw the violence of Ghadar in 1857, serving as a base for the British and a memorial to the slain soldiers and civilians. In the aftermath, as the world turned its attention to the horrors of the massacre, this outcrop of the Aravallis became the site of a memorial.

It is here that the Delhi University found firm footing, giving us the legacy of not just learning but also iconic festivals, rivalries, and many a love story.

Join us as we trudge through the rain-soaked trails, uncovering the stories of the Ridge's transformation, the making of Civil Lines, the establishment of Delhi University, and the eerie tales that survive in the forest.
