This year at Heritage School, come explore the Historic Gardens of Headquarters House Museum with us! We'll learn about the many historic uses for plants, including medicines, foods and drinks, dyes, paints, and even poisons that were made from plants at the time.
We'll see some bees and learn about pollination, and make some things using beeswax.
Some of our activities will include foraging, pressing flowers, soap-making, candle-making, crafting paints and brushes with plant materials, Dutch oven cooking, and making (and eating!) jellies, drinks, teas, cookies, and more using flowers. We'll make some salves and tinctures from medicinal plants and herbs. We'll also harvest and plant some seeds, so you can grow your own at home!
We'll learn about the Tebbetts family, who lived in Headquarters House at the start of the Civil War. In addition, we'll talk about the enslaved people who lived and worked there as well.
We'll learn and perform 1860s Social Dances, such as the Virginia Reel and Soldier's Joy.
Again this year, we'll be learning about the Battle of Fayetteville, which took place right in front of Headquarters House, by playing a tabletop RPG game based on the Battle. We'll learn the history of who fought in the Battle and why, and the role that it played in the Civil War.
Camp will take place at The Washington County Historical Society at 118 E. Dickson St in Fayetteville.
Healthy snacks and drinks will be provided each day. Snacks, all supplies and a one-year student membership to the Washington County Historical Society are included in the price of enrollment.
Enrollment is $125.00, with each additional sibling at $85.00.
For Ages 8-18
*Deadline to register is July 8th*
