Please join us here at the Pueblo County Historical Society & Heritage Museum on April 15, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM for another Heritage Night Lecture - Blood on the Tracks: The Ludlow Massacre by Robert “Bob” Butero! This lecture will explore one of the deadliest strikes that had hit Southern Colorado during the “Coalfield Wars”, which the Memorial Site still stands today. Robert “Bob” Butero: Bob started his mining career at C.F. & I. Allen Mine is located 26 miles west of Trinidad, CO. He worked at the mine for 6 ½ years before he was hired as a Safety Inspector by the United Mine Workers of America. Later in his career, he was appointed Regional Director. Part of his duties as Regional Director was overseeing the Ludlow Site and the Annual Ludlow Service.
Part of these duties included overseeing the restoration of the Monument after it was vandalized, the site being designated by the National Park Service as a National Historical Landmark, the 100th Commemoration, the restoration of the Death Pit/Cellar (courtesy of the Colorado State Historical Fund), the development of National Park Services Battlefield planning grant, and coordination of the Annual Service. Bob does want to give credit to the many people who made this work possible and rewarding.
