Heritage Morning: Improving the Energy Performance of Historic Windows

Join the Heritage and Conservation Networking Group for our next Heritage Morning, organised by Quadriga Contracts Ltd and held at Manchester Tennis & Racquets Club.

The morning will feature a CPD presentation by Darren Berryman of Energlaze, exploring how vacuum glazing technology can help improve the energy performance of historic and conservation properties while retaining the appearance and character of original windows.

Reducing energy use in existing buildings is an important part of improving the performance of the built environment. For listed and historic properties, however, retrofit measures must also respond sensitively to the building’s original fabric and architectural significance.

During this practical session, Darren will introduce FINEO vacuum glazing and explain how its ultra-thin construction can provide improved thermal and acoustic performance with minimal visual impact. The presentation will also consider how vacuum glazing can support a fabric-first approach to retrofit and allow original timber window aesthetics to be retained.

The session will cover:

• Understanding U-values, light transmission and sound reduction
• Key planning and design considerations for retrofit projects
• Improving occupant comfort and thermal performance
• Retaining the appearance of original timber windows
