This month there is not just one but three events taking place at the Coach House Tea Rooms, Lydiard Park. Working in collaboration, The Friends of Lydiard Park and the Lydiard Park Estate present Heritage Apple Day at Lydiard Park.
Opening at 1pm on September 13 is ‘In Search of Apples’, a stunning exhibition by local artist Billy Beaumont where heritage apples grown in the Walled Garden are pictured in exquisite detail.
Then on Sunday September 14, 11 am – 4 pm enjoy free entry to the Walled Garden as part of the Heritage Open Days event.
This event shines a light on Lydiard Park’s historic apple tree collection within its 18th Century Walled Garden. These remarkable varieties predate the 1740s and have been meticulously trained into goblet shapes under the guidance of Head Gardener Andy Dyer and his dedicated team. The Lydiard Park gardening team employs traditional, organic methods to nurture and preserve these plants, creating a haven for wildlife, including butterflies and bees.
Bags of freshly picked heritage apples will be available in the garden’s pop-up shop, alongside exclusive Lydiard cider and delicious treats.
