Matthew Tweten has been playing Balkan music (initially primarily Croatian and later Romanian and other pan Roma music from the Balkans) since he was 10. He specializes in Romanian Roma music “Muzica Lăutărească” having studied with some luminaries of the genre, primarily studying accordion with Maestro Ionică Minune. He’s also passionate about studying the historical, cultural/sociological roots behind the music and the dynamic that creates in the musical culture today in Romania and beyond. Matthew hopes everyone will enjoy the festival!

This accordion workshop, will focus primarily on styles and ornamentations of traditional Romanian Roma music (Muzica Lăutărească) of the Bucharest area, and will also include a special collaboration with Carol Silverman's vocal workshop students.
Admission to this workshop is pay-what-you-can (suggested minimum donation $20), with no one turned away for lack of funds. Please pre-register so we know how many people to plan for!
