Her Own Voice - An Evening with Anne E. Fernald
About this Event
Tombolo Book welcomes professor and author Anne E. Fernald to the bookstore to share more about her collection of autobiographical stories of eight radical women who responded to social oppression and helped create the modernist movement.
Fernald will be in conversation with USF English Department Chair, Lauren Arrington!
The women in this Her Own Voice encompass a wide range of diverse identities: Black, white, Asian, lesbian, queer, straight, mothers, aunts, teachers; novelists; poets, filmmakers, musicians, producers. Altogether, they provide an inspirational reminder that the social and political upheaval of our time is nothing new; women have been working to overcome enormous barriers in the name of their art throughout history.
Anne E. Fernald is Professor of English at Fordham University in New York City and one of the world’s best-known experts on Virginia Woolf.
LAUREN ARRINGTON is the recipient of the Robert & Ina Caro Award from Biographers International Organization, a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholars Award, and visiting research fellowships to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York Public Library; Cambridge University; Boston College; and Trinity College Dublin. Her writing has appeared in LitHub, the Times Literary Supplement, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Public Books, and elsewhere. Born and raised in Florida, Lauren lived in the U.K. and Ireland for twenty years before returning to her home state. She earned her doctorate at Oxford University.
