HER FIRST REVOLUTION
About this Event
HER FIRST REVOLUTION Synopsis
Whether you’re battling a dictator or fighting a madman in the White House; humanity trembles, families rip apart, and polarizations swirl into chaos.
Our story is about the last two years of the Cuban Revolution with a twist. It emanates from two women: Alex, a Cuban-American school-shooting-victim, who escapes to Cuba to avoid the madness of America and to join her long estranged grandmother. And Celia Sánchez Manduley - the woman behind Fidel Castro. Yes . . . you’ve never heard of her! Well, this will put an end to that! Through Magic Realism, Alex is pulled into 1956 to apprentice with Sánchez just before Fidel Castro & Che Guevara return from rebel-training in Mexico, to oust Dictator Batista from the island. Thrown into the middle of guerrilla warfare in the jungle, Alex rises heroically to the occasion, though her heart is worn thin by the deaths of friends, for whom she will be driven to hate and to K*ll, before she reaches her finale.
Infectious Afro-Cuban flavors fill an ambitious score, which gives way to dance theatre, the fascia of this piece. The great escapes of the Cuban Revolution parallel and magnify the emotional roller coasters of our modern times while against all odds, both Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, fall in love while winning a war.
Our digest version will be performed by Mia Cusianovic as Alex, Erick Sanchez as Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, Alissa Finn as Aleida March, Che's future wife, Sofia Forero will dance into your heart and Napua Davoy as Celia Sánchez, pianist, musical director and narrator. Cocktails and refreshments will be served during the Q&A & meet and greet. It will be fun, emotional and intriguing and the perfect way to start your Saturday night before Thanksgiving. And please note that Mark Hampton's masterpiece FULL GALLOP will be getting a revival at City Center, reviews begin January 8, 2027 starring PATTI LUPONE!
