A vibrant and soulful collection of new works. Suruchi Jamkar is a contemporary Indian artist and
an alumna of the prestigious Sir J. J. School of Art.
Over the course of her distinguished career, she has
developed a unique visual language centred on the
strength, dignity, and inner worlds of women. Her
thirty-third solo exhibition marks another significant
milestone in an artistic journey defined by
consistency, evolution, and a deeply personal
commitment to figurative expression.
Working with expressive line, luminous colour, and
symbolic adornment, Jamkar creates portraits that
inhabit a space between memory and myth, intimacy
and monumentality. Her recurring female
protagonists are not portraits of specific individuals
but universal presences—figures that embody
resilience, self-possession, and grace.
Drawing from Indian cultural sensibilities while
speaking to a global audience, her paintings explore
themes of identity, belonging, femininity, and
emotional inheritance. Turbans, textiles, floral
elements, and ornamental motifs become visual
metaphors for the stories, traditions, and experiences
carried across generations.
Through bold chromatic harmonies and a distinctive
contemporary aesthetic, Jamkar transforms personal
narratives into timeless visual statements. Her works
invite contemplation and connection, offering
viewers a moment of stillness and reflection within an
increasingly fast-paced world. Collected in India and
abroad, her paintings resonate across cultures
through their celebration of beauty, strength, and the enduring spirit of humanity.
