Henry “Hank” Pauly, aged 85, passed away on January 6, 2026.
Hank was a lifelong resident of the Toledo area and a well-known figure in the local glass industry and music scene.
Professional Hank dedicated many years of his working career to Toledo Mirror and Glass, where he served as an estimator.
Personal Life
Outside of work, he had many interests. Early on, he was involved with the Toledo Rep and Maumee Civic Theater, as well as a handball player with the Toledo Handball Club, beginning at the downtown YMCA then transferring to private clubs and outdoor courts at the Lucas County Recreation Center after the YMCA closed. He was very involved with the National Handball Tournament that has been held at the Rec Center for 50 years.
As a passionate boater, countless hours were spent on the Maumee River and Lake Erie in his wooden Lyman boats. His love for the water extended to the Caribbean, where he captained sailboats around the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands with his boating friends.
He was proud graduate of Libbey High School, and was extremelydisappointed when such a solid, well-constructed school was demolished.
As a board member of the Walbridge Park Advisory Board, he served as chairman for a number of years, hired many local bands for the Park’s summer concert series and was active with many other park projects.
There were many other activities that he really enjoyed, such as organizing whitewater rafting trips to the New River Gorge and the Gauley River in West Virgina, bus trips to the Detroit Institute of Arts for the Wassail Feasts and he was a longtime patron of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra Masterworks Series.
Musical LegacyMusic was a cornerstone of Hank’s life. After beginning his musical journey as a solo guitarist and singer, he founded the band “Three Sheets to the Wind.” The group became a staple of the Toledo music community, notably serving as the longtime house band at the Heatherdowns Lounge. Hank always had a good time on stage, and loved pulling the audience in to laugh and enjoy their time, too. He organized scavenger hunts, softball games and magical mystery tours outside of The Lounge, developing its own community of friends.
