Boogie Boogie and blues piano phenom, Henri Herbert, returns to East Austin Piano Shop for a one-night-only tribute to Memphis Slim.

A special concert experience awaits - the look and feel of a classic juke joint - in a room with less than 30 seats where you can hear every note - and a world-renowned artist alone at the piano saluting one of his musical heroes.

ABOUT HENRI HERBERT

With 100 million video views and over 200,000 social followers, Henri Herbert is one of the most sought after boogie and blues players in the world. The former stevedore and boxer performs a visceral, timeless show of original songs featuring piano and vocals inspired by the great American boogie and blues pianists of the 20th century, not only keeping this unique form of American music alive and well, but also advancing it forward.

Henri has called Austin home for the past two years, but as things open up, he’ll be in Texas less and less. In July, Henri heads to Hawaii to play Blue Note Hawaii and Hawaii Public Radio. TRIBUTE TO MEMPHIS SLIM

Henri Herbert is a boogie and blues player because of Memphis Slim. The first blues piano recordings Henri ever heard were Memphis Slim, and Henri was instantly hooked, setting Henri on the path to where he is today.

Memphis Slim and Henri also share French roots. It’s the country where Henri was born and Memphis Slim’s home for the last 25+ years of Slim’s life.

If you’re going to get addicted to a sound early in life, Memphis Slim is a heck of a star to set your sights on. During Slim’s nearly 50-year career, he brought blues piano to life in grand fashion - from debuting with Okeh Records in 1940, to penning “Every Day I Have The Blues,” to collaborations with everyone from Big Bill Broonzy to Pete Seeger and last but not least, being named Commander in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, inducted into America’s Blues Hall of Fame and deemed an “Ambassador-at-Large of Good Will” by the U.S. Senate.

At East Austin Piano Shop on Wednesday, June 23, Henri will honor the legend in the best way Henri knows how - by putting his heart and soul into giving you a rockin’ blues piano concert from start to finish.

VENUE PROTOCOLS

East Austin Piano Shop concerts are traditional, theatre-style events - seated room with minimal amplification utilized and a whisper policy in-place ensuring you get to hear every left-hand rumble, vocal inflection and right-hand run in direct, unadulterated form.

In addition, East Austin Piano Shop goes beyond the State's safety and health guidelines. All tables are safe and socially-distanced; masks are worn when not seated, without exception.

Cold bottles of water and Topo Chico available for purchase, but this event is BYOB as well. A metal pail of ice will be available at each table to keep your beverages cold.
