About this Event
Hello Neighbours is a project in art and social engagement that responds to the planet's biodiversity crisis. We invite Calgarians to meet a more-than-human neighbour—somebody (another species) that they share space with. This could mean a plant, animal, insect, or fungus. There is no need to know your neighbour’s name or anything else about them to engage in the experience.
The project invites people to see themselves as part of a larger ecological community- and elevate the position of other beings to neighbour status. Without a shared verbal language, getting to know each other will require all of our senses, some unconventional ways of relating, skills of observation and patience .
The project is facilitated by artist duo Mia + Eric and local plant expert Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed.
Hello Neighbours has previously shown in art festivals and venues in Germany, UK and Argentina.
This event will be recorded by Nur Films to create a promotional video to support Mia + Eric touring this work to more locations internationally. Participants should be comfortable being recorded; speaking on camera is not required.
Supported by Calgary Arts Development.
