Helen McCookerybook and Lorraine Lucas at The Old Hairdresser's

Helen McCookerybook became a punk musician in 1977 as part of the Brighton punk scene; once bass player and singer/songwriter in Brighton band The Chefs, she then switched to guitar and fronted the unusual band Helen and the Horns. Both bands recorded sessions for the late John Peel. After raising her family, she re-booted her music career and started working solo. Her last album 'Showtunes from the Shadows', was released in 2025. At this show, she will be playing all new material for a forthcoming album titles 'The Darkside Truth', an autobiographical journey through the Brighton punk scene that she previewed at the Rebellion Punk Festival in August 2026. Expect honestly, hummable tunes and a refreshing approach to nostalgia.
Lorraine Lucas was born and raised in the once industrial hills of North Lanarkshire taking to the road during the Thatcher years escaping the madness of it all hitchhiking out of town with a giro and a tent and an optimistic heart and a sense of adventure and it is easy to see why she cites Townes Van Zante, Lucinda & Hank Williams, Gillian Welch and old country blues guys as her main influences
She runs the established Folkestone Songwriting Festival, promotes live music as well as a gigging musician and has produced two albums of original music with a third in production and a fourth in the pipeline.
