About this Event
In Germany, Heiligabend or Christmas Eve, on December 24th, is the main celebration day during the Christmas season. Families attend a church service together, be it a children-friendly mass in the afternoon or a midnight vigil.
In the evening, families gather for dinner - a goose or another regional dish - and exchange gifts therafter. Traditional songs are sung, from “Oh Tannenbaum” (‘Oh, Christmas Tree’) to “Stille Nacht "(‘Silent Night’), and perhaps one or two rock ’n’ roll Xmas hits.
In Liverpool, we don't want to miss out on our triple C combo: carols in church on Christmas and, as part of the Liverpool European Christmas Trail, we would love to invite everyone to our evening mass on Christmas Eve at the German Church in the Georgian Quarter.
Although the service and (most of the) carols will be sung in German, you might recognise the one or other tune and sing or hum along. Everyone is definitely very welcome as we celebrate our Christmas miracle.
Admission is totally free, please just register your attendance via Eventbrite.
Liverpool European Christmas Trail is coordinated by the Liverpool European Partnership, funded by the Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund and supported by Liverpool City Council.
