Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Triad Pride Performing Arts (TPPA) is thrilled to announce a special one-night-only performance of the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Saturday, September 12 at 8:00 PM as part of the official Greensboro Pride festivities. The performance will take place at Congregational United Church of Christ, located at 400 W. Radiance Dr., Greensboro, NC.
Brilliant, innovative, and wickedly funny, Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of Hedwig Robinson, a genderqueer East German rock singer who survived a botched sex reassignment surgery ("the angry inch") to escape East Berlin before the fall of the Wall. Abandoned in a Kansas trailer park, Hedwig pours her heart into music and mentors a young boy named Tommy Speck, who subsequently steals her songs, achieves massive international rock stardom under the name Tommy Gnosis, and leaves Hedwig behind. Accompanied by her band, The Angry Inch, Hedwig follows Tommy’s sold-out stadium tour, performing in nearby venues while sharing her hilarious, heartbreaking, and deeply moving search for love, identity, and wholeness.
Age Suitability: Due to mature themes, sexual references, strong language, and frank discussions of identity and trauma, this production is recommended for mature audiences (ages 16 and up).
