Canadian rock legend 𝐋𝐄𝐄 𝐀𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐍 returns to Poperinge as headliner for Heavy Sound Festival 2026. She first played Heavy Sound in 1985, and now, 41 years later, she’s bringing a one-of-a-kind oldschool setlist. Packed with unforgettable ’80s classics like Metal Queen and Lady of the Darkest Night, reinforced with her powerful new tracks, Lee Aaron delivers pure, uncompromising rock & metal with the energy, attitude, and presence of a true pioneer!

Formed in London in 1976, 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐂𝐇 are among the founding bands of the NWOBHM. Their 1980 debut album became a cult classic and influenced bands from Metallica to Candlemass. Led by founder Kevin Heybourne, they celebrate 50 years of Angel Witch and return to Belgium to bring their dark, melodic heavy metal to Poperinge!

Founded in Newcastle in 1974 by brothers John and Mark Gallagher, 𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍 helped define speed and thrash metal with their aggressive “Athletic Rock” style. Albums like Rock Until You Drop and All for One became landmarks of the scene. After their last Heavy Sound appearance in 2014, Raven are back in Poperinge after 12 years!
➽ 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋
𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 are the most iconic all-female heavy metal band of the NWOBHM era. Formed in London in 1978, they toured with Motörhead and released classics like Hit and Run. Girlschool played Poperinge in 1980 at ’t Belfort, and return to Heavy Sound after 46 years with the same raw rock ’n roll spirit!
➽ 𝐓𝐘𝐓𝐀𝐍
Founded in 1981 by former Angel Witch bassist Kevin Riddles, 𝐓𝐘𝐓𝐀𝐍 became known for their melodic and classy NWOBHM sound. Their album Rough Justice remains an underground favourite. Heavy Sound 2026 features a special Kev Riddles Memorial Show, honouring both his legacy and the band’s long history.
➽ 𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐗𝐈𝐑
Formed in London in 1983, 𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐗𝐈𝐑 are one of the cult names of the NWOBHM underground. Their debut The Son of Odin blended classic heavy metal with epic themes and remains a collector’s favourite. In Poperinge they celebrate 40 years of The Son of Odin with original members on stage.

𝐄𝐗𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 represent the new generation of traditional heavy metal, mixing melody with oldschool power. Frontman Julian Izard is the son of the late Didier Izard of H-Bomb. Alongside their own set, they perform a special H-Bomb tribute, linking today’s scene with Heavy Sound’s history in Poperinge.
