We're thrilled to welcome author-illustrator Sally Anne Garland to the bookshop for a storytelling session with her new picture book Heave Ho - a wonderful story about learning how to handle your feelings.
About the book:
Cub wakes up with a lot of big feelings...so big that there is no space inside him for anything else, or any of his friends at school. On the playground, Cub stomps off and swings angrily from the branch of a tree. He finds that he likes the rumbling feeling of his feet dragging in the dirt as he swings. It sounds like the sea! Soon he begins to settle and welcomes his friends on an imaginary journey across a wild sea to calmer waters.
This gentle story provides a valuable lesson in how to self-regulate and finding the space to do so.
About the author:
Sally Anne Garland grew up in the Highlands of Scotland. According to her parents, her first really good drawing, at the age of four, was a large mural in crayon on the sitting-room wall.
A Graduate from Edinburgh College of Art, Sally Anne Garland has illustrated over 60 picture books. She has also authored many of her own stories that have received critical acclaim from The Guardian and starred reviews from Kirkus.
She is now settled in Glasgow with her family and enjoys finding and telling stories from the everyday that inspire creativity and curiosity in children.
