Heartless Bastards zijn nu al meer dan vijftien jaar verplichte kost voor liefhebbers van roots rock. De band rond Erika Wennerstrom werd in 2005 ontdekt door Patrick Carney van The Black Keys, die ervoor zorgde dat de groep een platencontract kon tekenen bij Fat Possum. Doorheen de jaren heeft de band almaar aan erkenning gewonnen. Zo toerde Heartless Bastards met Wilco en Lucinda Williams, terwijl 'Only for you' uitgroeide tot een ware culthit (inmiddels heeft het nummer al meer dan 36 miljoen streams op Spotify). De nieuwe plaat 'A beautiful life', de eerste in vijf jaar tijd, is eentje die volledig de stempel draagt van Wennerstrom. Ze schept in potige rock-'n'-rollsongs met eclectische invloeden en genuanceerde observaties een klimaat van empathie, generositeit en optimisme. Erika stelt met haar band het materiaal voor in de Rotonde van de Botanique.
