Do you feel like your desire went out for a walk, got lost, and never found its way home? Did your arousal just get up and go? Has intimacy been something you’ve avoided over time as it causes pain, either physically and/or psychologically? Or, when you think of pleasure, is it only something reserved only for foreplay? These commonly asked questions all to often go to physicians who have a tendency to respond, “well, you did just have a baby” or “that’s just that happens as we age” or, the worst case scenario, “just relax or have a glass of wine before heading to the bedroom”. Levels of pleasure, desire, and arousal normally change – they come and go throughout every woman’s lifecycle. That being said, there are better ways of understanding what’s happening than “just getting over it”.
Dee Hartmann, co-author of “The Pleasure Prescription: A Surprising Approach to Healing Sexual Pain”, is an internationally known speaker, educator, and writer. She spent almost 30 years specializing in women’s health physical therapy while treating women with chronic vulvar pain, sexual function, and bowel and bladder disorders. Dee hopes to answer any and all questions you may have thought about but never asked…or if you did, perhaps got answers that were less than satisfying.
