Heart Space: Los Angeles - Community Care Through Election Season Stress

Heart Space is a healing circle that provides a space for Black folks to decompress and connect in a supportive space for community to explore self-regulation, stress management techniques, and collective support during the challenging election season. This Heart Space is designed to equip attendees with practical tools to navigate political tensions while prioritizing their mental health and well-being. This session will be led by Ayla Sellers and Dr. Allen Lipscomb.

Ayla Sellers (she/her/hers )is a creatress, educator & sister-friend who finds joy in supporting people in her community with cultivating tools and environments that support well-being. Ayla has a BA in Developmental psychology and is completing a Masters program in Counseling Psychology. She has supported various communities throughout the Central Valley, East and South Bay as a behavioral and mental health care provider with much of her experience cultivated through supporting the neurodiverse community. Ayla is passionate about a whole-body approach to well-being and enjoys getting grounded through music, cooking, hiking outdoors and working with clay.

Allen E. Lipscomb, PsyD, LCSW (he/him/his) is an Associate Professor, Associate Chair, Director of MSW Online Program; as well as Director of Minority Male Mentoring (M3) and Student Success Allies (SSA) program at California State University Northridge in the Department of Social Work. Dr. Lipscomb is a clinical psychologist with the highest degree earned and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California. Dr. Lipscomb specializes in providing anti-oppressive and inclusive mental health services to individuals, children, youth, and families of color. His areas of research are centered on the psychiatric epidemiology among racialized and marginalized individuals who have experienced trauma (i.e., complex trauma, traumatic-grief, and race-based trauma).

About the venue: Black Being is a community-based nonprofit organization making the healing of Black people its focus – as an embodied declaration of our inherent worthiness. Their work adamantly prioritizes the wellbeing, lived experiences, leadership, wisdom, and power of Black people in Los Angeles through trauma-conscious practices, programs, and events.
