HeART of the Habitat is a free, all-ages, one-day arts event packed with creativity from start to finish, as part of Alberta Culture Days. Join us in celebrating the HeART of our Arts Habitat with incredible performances, hands-on workshops, activities, and exhibitions featuring our Arts Habbers in a vibrant community showcase.

The Art of Chinese Dragon & Lion Dance
Host: Hong De Canada
Info: Experience the artistry of traditional Chinese Dragon & Lion Dance through movement, rhythm, music, expression, and storytelling.
The performance and workshop will be conducted by Hong De Canada and will feature Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, and traditional percussion, showcasing how performers bring the lion and dragon to life through coordinated movement, character, expression, and live musical accompaniment.
The interactive workshop will give audience members an opportunity to see the handcrafted lions, dragon, and traditional instruments up close, learn about the artistic and cultural traditions behind Dragon & Lion Dance, and try some of the basic movements and rhythms themselves.

Info: Join artist and long-time champion of zine culture, amy leigh for a drop-in zine making workshop. Pronounced “zeen”, a zine is a small, handmade publication. Participants will be guided on how to make their very own mini zine using collage, text and drawing elements. All materials will be provided. This workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. No previous experience required!

Garage Studio Alumni Exhibition 2025-2026
Host: Natesa Medlicott-Kappo
Info: Featuring the work of 2025-2026 residency artist of the ArtsHub McLuhan House Garage Studio Program: Natesa Medlicott-Kappo. Natesa was the selected artist for the 2025-2026 Garage Studio Program at ArtsHub McLuhan House. Natesa is an emerging Nehiyaw artist and Indigenous rights activist from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 8 Territory Alberta. Natesa incorporates the traditional Nehiyaw art practices with textile, video performance, and mixed media work. She has a diploma in visual art and design from Northwestern Polytechnic and a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Info: One of Canada’s leading lever harpists, Keri Lynn is also a singer, composer and arranger of traditional music and her work features her Gaelic-styled vocals and imaginative, energetic interpretations of traditional Celtic material.

The Zine Machine
Host: The Zine Machine Project
Info: Amy Leigh (she/her) is a queer, disabled, settler of Scottish and Irish descent who graciously resides in amiskwaciywâskahikan via Toronto. She read her first zine in 1993 and has been invested in creating, celebrating and encouraging the making of space for zine culture ever since. In addition to facilitating numerous workshops, speaking engagements, and organizing zine-related events, Amy has exhibited at over 100 zine fairs throughout North America, and has participated in zinester-in-residence programs both locally and abroad. Since 2017, Amy has curated The Zine Machine Project — a roaming gold vending machine that distributes small zines. Amy holds a Diploma in Arts & Cultural Management from MacEwan University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of Alberta.
