Are you ready to showcase your skills? The Heart of the Bay Dj Competition TRY OUT is your chance to shine! We will be holding Tryout the 14th and 15th of January . Slots are for 15 minute intervals however Try out slots allow 6 minutes of your best set. TRY OUT Event will be held at Torch Oakland Rooftop Bar- Powered by Jack Daniels , Herradura, Tito's and Remy Martin get ready for an epic showdown of talent.
Bring your best beats and show the judges what you've got. This in-person TRY OUT is the perfect opportunity to make your mark in the local DJ scene and enter the biggest event during NBA finals weekend. THIS EVENT IS FOR DJS WHO ARE TRYING OUT FOR THE DJ EVENT HEART OF THE BAY . THIS IS A TRYOUT ONLY PAGE FOR OFFICIAL SLOTS INTO THE COMPETITION.

DJ Competition Rules and Guidelines

1. Eligibility

• Participants must be at least 21+ years old.

• The competition is open to both amateur and professional DJs.

• Each participant must register in advance, try out ( January 14-15) and provide all required details via website

• All rules to qualify below:

- Once officially signed up for tryouts, each DJ is required to post the official event flyer on their Instagram account.

- The flyer must remain posted on the DJ’s Instagram until the round winners are officially announced.

- Tagging the official competition Instagram handle (e.g., @heartofthebay.comp) and using the official hashtag #HEARTOFTHEBAY is mandatory.

- Photo of Dj, City Representing , years of experience, instagram handle and Logo must be sent in at tryout signup ( via email [email protected])

• by signing up you allow us to use your picture and likeness on all SOCIAL MEDIA accounts associated with Heart of the Bay

2. Competition Format

Allot time every Thursday of Febuary for this competition.

• Performance Time: Each DJ will have a total of 6 minutes to perform their set.

If you go over that time , you are disqualified .

• Set-Up Time: DJs will have 5 minutes before their set to set up and test equipment.

Full Competition breakdown :

Round 1: 6 minutes to wow the judges and create a lasting impression.

Round 2, the time extends from 6 to 10 minutes, allowing for a more in-depth display of your abilities.

Round 3, you will have 10 to 15 minutes to further demonstrate your expertise.

Finally, when it comes down to the two finalists competing for the grand prize of $2000, each will be given 20 minutes to showcase their skills in a head-to-head showdown. This structured timing ensures a fair and exciting competition, providing ample opportunity to shine at each stage.

3. Judging Criteria: DJs will be evaluated based on the following:

Technical Ability

Originality: Unique style, remixes, and live creativity.

Transitions and Mixing Skills: Seamlessness, transitions, and technical execution.

Crowd engagement and control : Energy and engagement with the audience.

BONUS SECTION: Wow factor , Stage presence, innovative techniques

4. Equipment

• Provided Gear: Standard DJ equipment will be available at the venue.

• Personal Equipment: DJs may bring their own controllers, laptops, or external devices.

• DJs must notify organizers in advance if personal gear will be used.

• All music must be pre-loaded and ready for performance.

4. Music Requirements

The competition will consist of four rounds, each with a specific theme:

• 1st Round: R&B, Neo-Soul, Funk

• 2nd Round: Reggae, Afro Beats

• 3rd Round: Hip-Hop Freestyle

• 4th Round: Surprise Theme (announced on the day of the event)

• DJs must not exceed the 20-minute performance limit—a penalty will apply for overages.

5. Conduct

• All participants must maintain professional and respectful behavior at all times.

• Use of offensive language, inappropriate gestures, or disrespectful conduct will result in immediate disqualification.

• Failure to adhere to time limits or guidelines may lead to deductions or disqualification.

6. Prizes

• 1st Place Winner:

• $2,000 Cash Prize

• Jack Daniel’s Letterman Jacket

• Trophy and Bragging Rights

• Audience Choice Award:

• Awarded for best crowd engagement.

7. General Rules

• Participants must arrive 40 minutes before the competition starts.

• Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be disputed.

• Event organizers reserve the right to modify rules at any time for the benefit of the competition.
