Hearing Preservation Course for Vestibular Schwannomas Sponsor Registration
About this Event
This hands-on cadaveric course is led by guest faculty Hirofumi Nakatomi, MD, PhD. It teaches the modified transcondylar approach with continuous CN VII/VIII monitoring for hearing preservation. Neurosurgery and neurotology teams dissect side by side, then work through electrode placement, montage, and system configuration with neurophysiologists and industry partners. The course directors are Nicole Jiam, MD (UCSF), D. Bradley Welling, MD, PhD (MGH/Mass Eye and Ear), and Kareem Tawfik, MD (Vanderbilt).
Cadwell is one of only a few platforms that can record near-field CN VII/VIII potentials at the root exit zone and brainstem, which is the core technique this course teaches. Each team pair is comprised of a neurosurgeon and a neurotologist from a leading US or international skull base program, and many of these teams are now deciding how to set up this monitoring at their own institutions. Sponsor stations will show the full process, from placing the electrode on the specimen to connecting it, configuring the system, and setting stimulation and recording parameters. A sign-up sheet at each station will collect each team’s institution, surgeon, and neurophysiology lead so sponsors can follow up after the course.
