About this Event
The “Hear Tomorrow” Hearing Conservation Workshop offers a new approach to promoting awareness of the ever-increasing problem of noise and music-induced hearing loss. This program is specifically targeted to students and professionals in music, music technology, audio and audiology.
The workshop is divided into four distinct but interrelated units. The first unit introduces the audience to the common heritage of modern audio, music recording and audiology. The second unit focuses on hearing physiology, providing a basic understanding of how the ear translates acoustic energy into what we perceive as sound. This leads to the third unit, hearing disorders, which examines the mechanics of noise-induced loss. The fourth unit on hearing conservation examines currently accepted noise exposure limits, an overview of noise hazards, and current high-quality technologies for hearing protection.
We’ll conclude the evening with a presentation from music audiologist Frank Wartinger on the latest developments in filtered ear plugs, concert in-ear monitoring systems, and how to make hearing wellness a habit that prolongs and supports your career in music.
Light refreshments will be provided starting at 6:00 PM. The meeting proper will begin at 7:00 pm.
