HEALTH CLASS: How to Slow Down Aging

What is aging? It’s more than just the number of years you’ve lived, and it’s not determined by genetics alone. Aging is influenced by everyday choices and lifestyle habits.

In this class, you’ll learn what you can control when it comes to how your body ages, including the important role of nutrition. We’ll discuss key foods that support healthy aging, and you’ll receive simple recipes and helpful handouts to use at home.

Meet the Instructor!

Valerie Stallbaumer graduated with a B.S. degree in biology and chemistry from Washburn University in Topeka, KS and earned an M.S. degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene, OR. Valerie taught science topics at the secondary level and followed her passion for science by working in research labs. After doctors could not help her recover from an illness diagnosed as acute viral fatigue, she was advised to try acupuncture. The experience and quick recovery inspired her to investigate a career in Oriental medicine. She graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 1997 and began her practice in Iowa where she works for the Story County Medical Center and has a clinic location in Ames.
