Health and Medicine in Britain - School Workshop
Welcome to the exciting workshop focusing on the history of health and medicine in Britain. Come to the Hunterian Museum for a hands-on learning experience. Discover the fascinating advancements in healthcare throughout the years and explore the impact they have had on society. This workshop is designed for GCSE students studying ‘Health and the People’ from the AQA and 'Medicine in Britain' Edexcel curricula.

Morning session part one: Workshop (duration 1 hour)
Info: This workshop explores the art of surgery using real objects and and illustrations to inspire curiosity through observation and encourage discussions using evidence-based resources and surgical skills materials. Sessions can include:
1: Medical History
2: Development in Surgery (including war surgery)
3: Ask a surgeon (Q&A with a retired surgeon)
4: Infection control
🕑: 01:30 PM - 02:30 PM
Afternoon session part one: Workshop (duration 1 hour)

Info: Students will investigate the work and context of significant individuals such as John Hunter, Edward Jenner, Joseph Lister and Harold Gillies as well as the history and development of surgery up to the present day - before evaluating the significance of their work and discoveries. Students will be given a trail to complete in the museum.
